What are Principal’s Daughter products made of?

We work primarily with natural and heritage fibers, selected for their quality, longevity, texture, and performance.

Our bouclé line is composed of 44% responsibly sourced alpaca, 38% virgin wool, and 17% recycled nylon, chosen to provide warmth, structure, and long-term durability while maintaining softness and resilience over time.

Our linen is a blend of 50% Belgian linen and 50% Italian linen, woven for strength, breathability, and a refined hand that improves with age.

Across all collections, over 85% of our materials are natural fibers, chosen not only for their feel, but for their ability to withstand regular use and remain beautiful over years of living.

What makes Principal’s Daughter products sustainable?

Sustainability at Principal’s Daughter is rooted in materials, scale, and intention, rather than trend-driven claims.

We prioritize:

  • A high percentage of natural fibers that age well and reduce the need for replacement

  • Responsible sourcing and European production with established textile partners

  • Small-batch manufacturing, minimizing excess inventory and waste

  • Timeless design, intended to live with you for years, not seasons

We believe sustainability means making fewer, better things—and standing behind them.

What is alpaca, and why is it considered so exceptional?

Alpaca is a natural fiber shorn from alpacas, native to the Andes and prized for centuries for its strength, softness, and longevity. Unlike many fibers used in modern textiles, alpaca offers a rare combination of performance and refinement.

What makes alpaca exceptional:

  • Remarkable durability and strength
Alpaca fibers are stronger and more resilient than sheep’s wool, meaning they resist pilling, stretching, and breakdown over time.

  • Naturally clean
Alpaca is antimicrobial and antibacterial, allowing it to resist odors and remain fresh longer—often requiring less frequent cleaning than cotton or synthetic fibers.

  • Thermal regulation
The hollow structure of alpaca fibers helps regulate temperature, providing warmth without weight and comfort across seasons.

  • Soft without chemical treatment
Alpaca is naturally smooth and soft, eliminating the need for harsh chemical processing often used to soften other fibers.

  • Low environmental impact
Alpacas are gentle on their environment, and the fiber is renewable and biodegradable, making it a responsible choice when sourced thoughtfully.

Alpaca is “magical” not because it is rare or precious, but because it performs beautifully and quietly—aging well, wearing in rather than out, and aligning with the idea that true luxury is material integrity and time.

What is the best way to wash the bouclé?

Our bouclé is dry clean only. We recommend professional dry cleaning approximately once per quarter, depending on use. (just like your favourite wool suit)

Alpaca fiber is an exceptionally clean material—naturally antimicrobial and antibacterial, and notably cleaner than cotton. Because of this, the fabric resists odor and buildup, allowing it to remain fresh with less frequent cleaning than many conventional textiles.

Between cleanings, we suggest:

  • Regular airing or light shaking

  • Spot blotting with a dry cloth if needed

  • Avoiding moisture, agitation, or home washing, which can compromise the bouclé’s texture and structure

Proper care will preserve the fabric’s loft, structure, and longevity over time.

How should I care for other Principal’s Daughter textiles?

Care instructions vary by material and are included with your purchase. We generally recommend professional dry cleaning or fiber-appropriate care to preserve texture, structure, and longevity.
